Neural circuit dysfunction causing bipolar disorder

We are searching for the neural circuit critical for the development of bipolar disorder. We think that the paraventricular thalamic nucleus (PVT) is the strongest candidate region. We are now studying whether PVT of bipolar patients have some specific pathology. We are also studying what types of neurons exist in PVT, which neural circuits they are involved in, and how these circuits play a role in mood regulation.
